Aloha Jamie,

Hang in there. I am very sorry to hear about your failed surgeries, you are way to young to have to go through something like this, I guess no one should really have to go through something like that, one surgery is enough for me and I hope I can continue to say that. It sounds to me like you need to seriously consider looking for a new doctor. Who did your surgery? Was it a neuro or orthopedic surgeon? With out knowing a lot about what is wrong with you, all I can do is share a little of my experience. I had an orthopedic surgeon do my surgery, which was just a little over two months ago. I had a three level (L3 – S1) discectomy and fusion with six cages and lots of titanium due to three bulging discs, annular tears in two levels and DDD in all three levels. I can really relate to the meds. Pre op I also was taking Percocet, Neurontin, Tramadol, Effexor, Vicodin, Celebrex and about four others I can’t remember the names of right now. Some of them I really had some bad experiences with, and oh the nausea dizziness and constipation oh my, but that’s for another post. Right now, I am only taking 10mg of Oxycontin, I am down to 1600mg of Neurontin a day, and 0.5mg of Klonopin twice daily, and occasionally, after an aggressive PT session I take Vicodin. I have had, so far, a very successful surgery as I can now walk, sit up straight for greater lengths of time…getting longer and I sometimes sleep better now too, and for the most part, unless I over do it at PT, relatively pain free.

So don’t give up, believe in your self, go to some of the spine and ortho sites out there on the web and read as much as you can on what kind of condition you have…knowledge is power. I have found that for the majority of us, there is life after surgery. I was going to say that you must consider surgery as a last resort, but you have already traveled quite far down this road, I still think you should seek advice from another doctor. Good Luck and God’s speed. You will be in my prayers.
