Discussions that mention levlen

Birth Control board

Hi, i've just started taking bcp this week.
My doctor prescribed Levlen to me and I've noticed that comparably the progestin concentration is high and i guess it's good, because supposedly that's the hormone that regulates cramps. And that's one of the reason i went on the pill because i was having so much problem with the cramps. And she also told me i can throw out the placebo from the first 2 packets to allow a menste only once in 3 month.
But i also heard that progestin is the hormone that can cause weight gain due to its ability to act as an appetite enhancer. Is that true? Should i be worried about the weight gain effect of this pill? Anyone know anything about levlen? Comments are appreciated. Thanks :)

The progestin is actually comparable to the strengths in other pills. Many pills have 150mcg of progestin, just as Levlen does. I would say that it's high in progestin or even progestin-dominate, but that doesn't decrease it's effectiveness.

Progestin is known to help with cramps, so hopefully it will help you out there. As far as weight gain, if you eat well and exercise regularly, weight gain will not be a problem. It only happens in women who eat poorly and do not increase their exercise.
