TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint board

Hi all,
I posted a similar question to this a while back. I'll move it up so you can all read it.
I've tried Vioxx & Celebrex (which I'm allergic to), Relafen, Mobic, mass quantites of Ibuprofen, Excedrin, and tylenol. Right now I am on 500 mgs of Naprosyn twice a day.
As far as the muscle relaxants go, I've tried valium, zanaflex, flexeril, and soma. Currently I am switching between xanax when it's really bad and flexeril most of the time at night, and during the day, skelaxin.
As far as pain killers I've tried Lortab, Fiorinal, Esgic Plus (that might be the same thing as fiorinal), Percocet, and Oxycontin. I am currently on Kadian (a long acting form of morphine), and Norco (hydrocodone+APAP) for breakthrough pain.
The anti-depressants I've tried are paxil and effexor. I am currently on Lexapro and I love it. No side effects what so ever.
Hope you all had a pain free day.

Hi Stacy - you take lexapro for TMJ pain?

mbr
Mbr,
I don't take the lexapro specifically for the TMJ pain. It is prescribed by my neurologist, for the depression that can occur with the chronic pain, and also in hopes that it will reduce some of the headaches. It's a great anti-depressant. I really vouch for it.
hope you're doing well,

Thanks Stacey - I am going to start on a med for depression due to the chronic pain. Maybe I will mention lexapro to my doctor. Any bad side effects?

thanks again,
mbr
Hi Stacy - I just started on Lexapro for both depression (due to chronic pain) as well as the chronic headaches. I wonder how long until I may notice it is working? Doc said anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks on average, although different for everyone.

If that doesn't work, he mentioned Effexor.

Hope you're doing well,

Hey there,
Glad to hear you started the lexapro! For me it started working within about a week! You're starting at 10mg right? Most patients stay on that dose forever... I am actually increasing my dose to 15mg to see if that helps a little more.
I took my first increased dose tonight (probably not a great idea, but I'm an insomniac anyway because of the pain) so we'll see. I'll let you know.
As for effexor...I hated it. I can't really tell you specifically what it was about it that I hated, it just wasn't right for me.
Anyway, I hope that you have some luck with the lexapro. I've heard nothing but great feedback from people on it. Have a pain free night!
