Back Problems board

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this message board and I am so grateful to have found it. I've been diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease 5 mos. ago. Have had a series of steroid injections in lower back - has not helped. Been in physical therapy about 4 mos - exercises in a heated pool. The pain is overwhelming at time - I cry alot when at its worst. I feel hopeless and helpless - and so depressed. Cannot do anything I used to to - not even housework. So I feel useless and captive to the pain. No one seems to understand unless they have experienced it. Am on Lortab 10s 4 times a day - does not really help. Am on antidepressants - Lexapro, Cymbalta, and Clonopin. Nothing helps. Thanks for letting me vent. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be so grateful. My name is Analise and I'm 59.
:)

hi Analise - I have also been diagnosed with Degenerative Disc disease, plus spinal stenosis. I would like to know why you visited the orthopedist in the first place? The reason I asked is that I injured my leg (I thought) when I was trying to prune a tree. It turned out to be sciatica, with pain traveling down my right leg from my hip. I tried to cure it myself but just made it worse by walking the wrong way; I ended up having the sciatica transfer to the left leg! However, my doctor didn't think the pruning caused my pain and had an MRI done, which confirmed what he thought: that I had DDD plus spinal stenosis. I had 3 sets of transforamenal steroid injections; the last one worked, and for two years I have been pain-free. I realize that the pain could come back and no doubt will as my age increases. Do you think that perhaps you injured your back somehow? "They" do say that it can take up to 2 years for back injuries to heal. I had PT, which didn't help at all. The main thing that has helped is time! So, don't give up! Perhaps you should try having a transforamenal injection. If they inject the correct spot, it will stop the inflammation and allow your back to heal - hopefully, for at least a year. Good luck! :)
