Discussions that mention lorazepam

High & Low Blood Pressure board

I would love to hear from someone re garding my situation:

40 yrs old 5'11" 210Lbs. Very active gym 5 days week ice hockey, softball bike riding, etc. For the past 6mos -1yr my blood presuure has been running 140-165/90-100. Went to numerous drs tried Atenonol(felt miserable, howeverr my BP came down immediately to 100/70 hr45. Dr took me off now on Altace 5mg for 8weeks no change in BP(148/96 dr wants to go to 10mg. I don't think it is going to help and I have experienced a few side effects(slight cough) tired, heart palpitations. I also take 1mg of Lorazepam to calm me down which agrees with me and makes me feel alot better. The high BP is making me crazy. I think about it all the time(just want one normal reading) and I am trying to lower I just want to see a liitle improvement and my outlook would be soooo much better. erik By the way my Dr said the BP is due to emotional factors. What does that mean and what medx are best to treat and lower.

It all depends on the person. As active as you are the Atenolol and such will not work. I workout hard 5-6 days a week and felt like I was hitting a brick wall on the beta blockers. As for which drugs are best you ned to find that out for your self. It took my 6 or so different meds before they found the right one Diovan HCt and no side effects that bother me except weight gain but I work out harder and eat healthier and I'm finally seeing results. Not sure what the heck ur doc means when he says emotional factors. Are you emotional and going through any stress right now?
