Nat-a while back you wrote to back to me because I was gaining some weight being on Luvox. Well, I've been doing pretty good by following your suggestions. I am about the same weight I was when I wrote but I haven't gained any more. I have been working out about 6-7 days per week and I try to burn about 400 calories each visit plus weights some nights too (remember I am small only about 115 lbs. now) The thing that bothers me is that I don't weigh very much but I have a high percent of body fat (I'd say about 30%) which I'm really trying to get rid of, especially in my stomach area. My arms, legs & butt are looking better (not so flabby) but I don't really know how to get rid of my stomach fat. Should I just keep up the cardio. like I'm doing and give it more time? Or, should I try doing more stomach exercises like sit-ups or crunches etc.? Thanks so much! Beth
My stomach used to be huge, what I did was drink a lot of water, you have to work on your mid section strictly. So the key is water and less fatty food, mid section only exercises.

Hi there! I really glad to hear you're doing well :) There's nothing like progress to reinforce.

For that stubborn tummy fat the answer is unfortunately tenacity - we all have those areas that are the last to let go. They make it a struggle. There is some good news though. First is this; abdominal fat responds really well to high intensity cardio, it's the closest you can get to spot reducing because of the type of fat it tends to be. If you've been doing regular, moderate cardio you'll also find it works well because it's something new and it's a shock to your system. The second piece of good news is that people who cary a lot of their extra fat around their stomachs get BF% numbers that tend to be more off than others.

Keep in mind that your 30% can be up to 4% off depending on many factors. It's always best to use that number as a guide; look for downward trends and not absolutes. BTW, if you don't know what your % is and you're guessing don't be too hard on yourself, the average in the USA right now is about 32% Fitness models keep theirs around 15%, many professional swimmers are around 19-20%. A 'healthy, average' % is considered 25% and that goes higher as you get older. And if it makes you feel any better when I started I was sitting at 53% BF - heck it makes me feel better knowing I've lost more than 1/2 my bf!
