Back Problems board

Hi all,

I hope everyone is having a good day. For those who don't know, I had an EMG last Friday, I was supposed to have the follow-up on the 21st, but they called me for a cancellation today. The PA for the doctor who did the EMG gave me some idea of what is going on, since the doctor didn't write up her conclusions based on the data quite yet. So, this is what he has come up with by looking at the data, I have a "pinched" nerve at S1, and there is a nerve problem at L5. I figured that there would be a problem at L4/L5 since my most recent MRI (Sept '06) says that there is material abutting the nerve root there at the left side, however, the PA said that the L5 problem is causing problems with the right leg. I was pretty confused about that part, and that S1 is causing problems with my left leg. Bottom line, is that I have to call tomorrow to see if the doctor has written up her conclusions to get a definiative answer. Frustrating.

I am now off of nortriptyline now since it is not doing anything for me now. So, he gave me Lyrica to try. From what I have read on the boards here is that a lot you take this drug. I hope something works. I am really tired of taking percocet everyday. I am also going to go back to PT land and aquatherapy. I hope something positive comes out of all of this. Have a good night everyone..and if anything new comes up I will let you all know. Angie :)
Hello, Angie I am glad you were able to get some partial results today. Did your doc say what the plan was is it conservative with meds and pt? I was also wondering do you have pain in both legs since you have nerve problems with the right and left. I am also on lyrica and so far it has not worked for me. I have been on it for two weeks and just got a increase to 75mg yesterday. Well, I hope you feel better and get the answers you need when they get the full report. please keep us posted, take care.
Hi Rachel,

I have pain in both legs and hips. Sometimes it is in the back of my legs, or the front of my thighs, and the hips often hurt too, along with back pain. The PA put me on 75mg of Lyrica twice a day. I really hope the doc has the report completed tomorrow. I am guessing that they want me to continue with conservative treatment. I had a microdiscetomy at L4/L5, and since that disc is causing some of the trouble, I don't think they want to rush into surgery. I am hoping it doesn't get to that point. Thanks for your response.

the actual "thereputic' dose of lyrica is actually around 300mgs a day.some will get relief or see some sort of benefit from much lower doses and some will need more, but that is kind of the range they try and shoot for eventually.its a taper just like with alot of the neuopathic pain meds.lyrica really helped alot with my central pain syndrome and my RSD,but the side effects with my eyes and my walking were too much so i had to stop taking it.but i did have great results with it.just like with any other med, some will have some side effects and some wont, but this med should at least be tried if you have tried others to no avail.when trying to control out of control pain, anything is at least worth giving a shot anyway.hope it works for you, marcia
