Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I've actually been to 6 doctors (2 orthopedic surgeons, 1 neurosurgeon, 2 pain mgmt doctor and then my family doctor). My neurosurgeon is basically happy that the level is stabilized - I get the feeling he couldn't care less about the continued pain, as long as his instrumentation ok. The first orthopedic surgeon wanted to take the scar tissue out via laser - the second orthopedic surgeon (who did my micro-d) said that was NOT advisable, and I'm inclined to trust him on that one. One pain mgmt dr has done 3 sets of epidural injections and a medial branch nerve block, and had me on 1600 mg of Neurontin daily. When that wasn't doing much other than making me a bucket of oatmeal, he wanted to prescribe Oxycontin (which I ran from like the plague). The second pain mgmt dr has actually been more helpful. He took me off the Neurontin, and he's got me on the tens unit and Lyrica. We tried the Cymbalta, but that pill and my body do not like each other - I had some very strong side effects within days of starting it. I know new innovations and breakthroughs are coming out all the time, and I figured after 7 years maybe something could help, but I guess we're not there yet. I'm still going through the feeling sorry for myself phase after yesterday's appointment, but I'll be better soon. In the meantime, I'm going to go eat some chocolate. :D
