Is there anyone here that is taking Topamax for nerve pain?I took Neurontin for over a year and now have been on Lyrica since Oct. Both of these drugs have been effective in reducing my nerve pain.

Over the last year and a half I have gained 20lbs being on these drugs. Topamax on the other hand causes weight loss. I would really like to give Topamax a try and see if I experience weight loss not gain.

The main question is "Does it reduce nerve Pain??" I think my PM might be reluctant to switch me over as I am having success with Lyrica. I will probably be on these drugs the rest of my life so I figure there is no harm in me giving Topamax a shot

I started on Topamax last month. My dr. is working me up to "working" strength as he called it. I had been on lyrica and had put on over 15 lbs. so he put me on the topomax. I have been on it for two week and have noticed that I have not been grazing the way that I was on the lyrica. I'll let you know how it goes after I see him next week and he ups the dosage.

It is covering the nerve pain. Not as well as athe Lyrica, but then I'm not on as high a dose as I was with the lyrica either. That will come this next month....

I too am on topamax. I was on lyrica gained 20 pounds in less than a month and suffered with edema so the doc switched me. I find that the topamax seems to be working well for my nerve pain. The weight from the lyrica is gone and so is the edema ( thank god! ) But sometimes I do lose my train of thought, also makes soda taste like chalk ( yuck ) But those are really only the side effects the I have noticed with it so far.

i HAVE HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT TOPAMAX AND WAS GOING TO MENTION IT IT MMY DOC THIS WEDNESDAY. i HAVE BEEN ON THR LYRICA ABOUT 3 WEEKS AND GAINED ABOUT 20LBS. i WAS PREVIOUSLY ON NEURONTIN AND THE WEIGHT GAIN WAS NOT AS RAPID. tHIS MESS IS DRIVING ME NUTS

It is so true I sometimes have to stop and ask my husband the name of a common item because for the life of me I can't think of the name of It. I take up tp 400 mgs a day. along with elavil and it does help with that nasty pain shooting down my leg and also help my migrains tremendously.I have been on it for a couple years.....I think:rolleyes:

I have a form of Narcolepsy so I already can't remember anything. LOL Seriously, I lose my train of thought all the time. Can't remember words when I am talking. So don't know how much worse Topamax will hurt. I guess I have to get weaned off the Lyrica like I did with the Neurontin. I need to lose the extra weight and if Topamax will do it then I'll give it a try. I tried Elavil but didn't help.
