Back Problems board

Hi Koc and welcome to the board,

I'm sure sorry for yourr pain. Your in the right place for support. 4 months really isn't that long out, but if your really hurting badly, then you could have re-herniated again. I've been there and it stinks!! From your nerves being compressed for so long, did your dr. say anything about permanant nerve damage to you? Are you on any nerve med, like lyrica, neurontin or anything else?

I'm really glad that your getting another Mri tomorrow and hope all will turn out good!! Hopefully you'll have an answer to whats going on.

Take care and please keep us posted
[QUOTE=koc66;2983164]Bailey17,
Thanks for your reply! How long after the first surgery did you re-herniate?? My neurosurgeon said that reherniation usually happens in the first three months. He told me I should be safe from that by now, But who knows it took me 5 months to get the first surgery. I had a open discectomy whatever that is..They did not use the term Micro in my paperwork. But it may be the same I don't know for sure. The neuro reordered a MRI for May 15th, I am afraid of what it will show, or won't show to tell me whats up! The surgeon said he wants to take a wait and see approach, because I had to wait five months to get surgery he belives the nerves are not healing as fast as those who have their surgery as quickly as pain sets in. How long did you have pain before your first surgery and was it in your back or your leg..I had no back pain before surgery only severe severe like 10 on the pain scale in the right leg with weakness tingles and numbness..but no back pain..Now I don't really have back pain its more like back fatigue...Did you have steroids? IF so did you swell?
Well I do appreciate all the input Thanks again

I had always has some form of back pain for a while but it got really bad in about Sept or Oct of 05. I went and saw a neuro guy (November-May), was put on Lyrica and developed a rash and decided I didn;t want to take any of the other crap so I just was on anti-inflamitories (celebrex maybe? can't remember) got some pain meds tramadol, did the epidural shots and did PT and nothing helped. Went and saw a new neurosuergon and was told I needed surgery (saw 2nd neuro at the middle of May 06 and had surgery June 1st) I was never 100% but felt much better than I had prior to surgery. Then around October 06 I was in pain again and it got progressivly worse and called the suergon right away and was put on Medrol step down pack, then anti-inflamatories and got a 2nd MRI done and it showed that I had re-herneiated my disc and that I would have to have a laminectomy to correct the problem that surgery was on January 25th 07.
I never had pain in my back per say. It was my sciatic nerve that was causing me all the problems. I had horrible, horrible pain. It radiated across my rear, down my leg and I couldnt feel my foot! Ir I would have irritating pins and needles feeling. NOT FUN!!!!! I was miserable, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't do anything I loved anymore I was very depressed because I was in pain all the time. Luckily for me I have found relief in this last surgery and I hope and pray that this is it for me!

I wish you nothin but the best. If you have any other questions feel free to ask away! I will be thinking of you on the 15th and sending good thoughts your way. Much luck and may you find relief!

Bailey,
Thank you for your thoughts, I can relate to everything you have gone through. I have been through 4 Medrol step down packs since surgery 1/07, I am still swelling in my ankles and belly, and have not lost the weight gain from the last pack, 4/26 -5/2 07. It helps a little but not worth the side effects. Did you swell or retain fluid? I have had so many steroids I cannot handle anymore, I have to lose this weight. I am 5' 8" I was 140 at surgery and 4 months and many steroids later I am 170, I was 125 the day my back went out. The highest I weighed pregnant was 137 so this is tearing me up. Well I need to go rest hurting from standing to type, can't sit for but a few minutes..Take Care and again Thanks...K
