I am on the oxy 20 mg 2 x daily, the 10-325 percocet every 4 to 6 hours, soma 2 x daily, and prozac 10 mg. I have had allergic reactions to elevil, palemor, lyrica, dillaudid, morphine, and neurotin. No one has been willing to perscribe topomax or cymbalta.

I would love to try a nerve medicine. Today thankfully the nerve pain is better than yesterday. :) Tomorrow when I see the surgeon I am going to bring up nerve meds again.

Good... and let's hope it continues to go down. I'm so sorry to hear that you're still having difficulties but hopefully things will calm down.

cymalta helped me at first but then the it sort of went away but the comination of that with the topomax is helping me. OFcourse I have no nerves impinged just nerve pain go figure. HOw can we have such bad nerve pain with no nerves impinged lol.

Anyway it is helping alot, its still there but not where I want to take a chain saw and cut my feet off anymore. But one of the side effects is people loose weight so if you are to thin you can't take it. Now I am not one of those people I am just normal, I haven't lost weight, but I take xanax at night and they cause me to eat lol.

But I like that betteer than the neurontin and lyrica that both casued me to gaine ten lbs in a week and a half and brain for. Topomax makes me have short term memory though and my words not come out right its weird but not the fog its weird.

Well ya know how we all respond different to medicines look how you have had reactions to different meds.... I couldnt' get my freaking surgeons office to return my calls when the lyrica was having a bad reaction so I went to my own doctor and got it. THis is the weird thing, when I went to the ER, at his own hospital the ER suggested it. Then I read about it on the different forums..and the nurse..my favorite person said she had never heard about it, ofcourse she was the one not returning calls about the lyrica then when she did, she said she had never even heard of that being used for nerve pain.

Well when i saw the surgeon last week, he said that was a great idea. go figure lol.

The surgeon said the topomax isn't as clean as lyrica or neurontin and they usually prefer those, but if you have to bad of side effects then thats ok. Ya know we all act differently with diffeent meds.

Just like vicodin or lortabs they make most people tired, they keep me awake, I guess I am just a freak lol. He said well if the topomax work for you then thats great. They also are used for migraines and moods and some other things, so maybe I wont ever get a headache lol

She said the same thing about switching the oxycontin, she was really pissy when I left the message with the office staff for the surgeon, she called me. She said, I've never even heard of Kadian, I said I dont' even know what it is and I dont' care what you guys switch me to I just want off the oxycontin to see if that is what is causing me the problem, she says well.I've never given anything else but oxy after surgery, I dont' see why your having so many problems, hatefully. Well when she calls back, she said the surgeon said he thought kadian was a wonderful choice. I didnt even know what it was. It turns out it is a extended release morphine..stormy told me about they switched her to.

The other good thing, people dont freak out when you say your on kadian lol.

Hello Yvette777 (? spelling) Just wanted to comment on your post. First the Topamax is probably helping you so much because your nerve pain isn't due to injury or pressure on it. It is probably due to circulation to that nerve either by the blood, O2, or limbic system. Thus affecting nutrients, blood, O2, and or immune response to the nerve. Topamax affects vasculature so it may improve the circulation to that nerve. Next, I have been on a number of pain meds due to serious injuty in 2002. I have been on Kadian for about 3 years now. And, no side effects, no tolerance changes except I dont nod like I did the first few days. I actually tke less than I took 3 years ago. I do have to take break through almost every day but it's been that way since my first surgery in 2000. anyway, hope the Kadian works. Just be careful if you stay on it for awhile and are a persn that likes to get a buzz. People get frustrated and chew up 2-5 X there normal dose to get high or to try to completely kill the pain and overdose. And, you just don't kill chronic pain. You manage it. ANyway Have fun.
