Kidney Disorders board

I am on a very small dose of the ACE inhibitor called lisinopril to reduce the protein in my urine. However, I need to take a higher dose, but I get a bad reaction from lisinopril when I do. So my regular doctor gave me some samples of the ACE inhibitor Mavik to try...but I am a little afraid to because it says it could actually hurt your kidneys and make your creatnine level rise...I think that is rare, but it could happen. Does anyone know if that warning is the same for all ACE inhibitors? I don't remember reading that with the lisinopril. I would be interested to know what kind of ACE inhibitors you all take for reduction of protein in the urine. Thanks!

I'm type 1 diabetic, and I am on altace, I don't have protein in my urine, but I like to have a much lower blood pressure and the extra benefits of it preventing kidney, eye and heart problems are definitely worth it.

I also have no side effects, I think in rare cases people can develop a cough from them

my doctor also told me the only reason your kidney's would get worse is if you had a rare genetic disorder that somehow plugged something in the kidney (sorry I'm not up with the doctor jargon) :)

she said that would be extremely rare.
