Has anyone had problems with methadone

Hey,

I was addicted to methadone for a while...it was used to help me come off heroin...but I ended up getting more addicted to that and the detox off it was much worse than heroin...

Why? Would you care to share your story? Don't worry if not.

There is nothing in this world worse than Methadone! I was addicted to heroin 6 years ago and tried the Methadone thing! Because the withdrawal lasts for so long I got addicted to prescription pain pills to help with the withdrawal. I can honestly say that I have never spoken to anyone who thought Methadone was a good choice. Its easier to withdraw off of heroin than methadone. My doctor told me it would take 6 months to get it out of my system! Who can afford to be sick for 6 months? I finally found Suboxone for withdrawal and it has worked great. I take half a pill a day and have no cravings! I honestly don't know how you kick meth. But I have read that Suboxone is a new treatment for it. I have other posts that can explain that. Good luck. ive been on methadone for 2 and half months and i am trying to get off of it now because all i did was switch addictions and it is harder to get off of methadone than heroin. i hate being on the methadone, it helped me quit heroin but im still an addict, and i want to get off of it so i can move on with my life without any drugs at all. methadone is $90 a week here and my moms been paying for it and i have to pay her back and i feel that im just digging myself a bigger financal hole than what i was in before i quit heroin. as of now i owe about $1400. methadone is only good for detox. you just have to go to na meetings and take your recovery serious or you'll never do it. methadone helped me get my life back but i wish i wouldnt have had to go that route. all im saying is try other options first before you go to methadone because it is a long process. thank you Jason

Hi - I was on methadone for about 2 years 25 years ago. At the time I was really not serious about getting straight. It was cheaper than dope and legal. We used to not take it all and save it to get high.

As with anything I was addicted to, I had to fianlly make a decision that I wanted to get straight/sober more than I wanted to get high. It was only then that I got sober. It was only when I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.

It all ended up with booze, which I let go of over 20 years ago.

There's a good show on tonight on ABC about addictions. I know I'm going to watch it.

I was on methadone for over 2 years. I started out on hydro 30mg day, went to oxycontin 80mg day.. My Dr cut me off cold turkey, ended up going to methadone clinic to ease the w/d. At $12.00 a day to dose was very costly. I ended up on 100 mg after being there for 1 year.
I finally got health insurance and had to wait one year for pre-existing conditions. Upon seeing a pain specialist, he took me off of the methadone, and put me on 200 mg of morphine per day. I had tried to quit taking methadone several times cold turkey. The w/d are too much to bare.

Methadone is way harder to detox off of than any other drug I have ever taken.
