Discussions that mention methadone

Addiction & Recovery board

I was prescribed Naltrexone for my opiate addiction, Naltrexone is not an opiate, it is an opioid blocker, it attaches to the opioid receptors and does now allow you to benefit from the "high" achieved when opiates are consumed. I prefer taking this over the buprenex and sub. or methadone. I too told the doctor that I did not want to substitute on opiate for another. I have been on the Naltrexone for almost 2 months, and it has been great. It helps tremendously with the cravings. The only bad thing about it was the fact that you have to go through the w/d's. I looked at it like this....If I want to live, and conquer this addiction, I have to take the good with the bad. I think that once you go through the hellish withdraws it somewhat deters you from wanting to start the cycle over again. Addiction is a disease, but with willpower you can do it. :bouncing: Love Lyn
