 i just got a reply that going from methadone to klonopin was not the greatest thing to be doing i understand benzos are a nightmare and i asked my doctor about taking them and she said some people need to take this stuff to ease them through the after affects of getting off methadone that post really scared me if anyone has any info please help ive already been through a nightmare with methadone i dont need another one please help thanx kelleigh
My boyfriend was on methadone for approx. 2 years after a year long heroin habit. He would have gotten off the methadone sooner but he heard horror stories about how he would feel during the withdrawl period. He finally made the decision to detox, rather quickly (down 10 mg/wk, from 80). Nobody, including myself, believed he would make it through, and I knew how badly he wanted off the meth.

He finally got to 10mg, and was feeling like crap (he had the shakes, chills, hot flashes, diarrhea, insomnia), but continued on, and a week later stopped going to the clinic completely. He pretty much lounged around in bed for the first 2 weeks, but the aboved mentioned withdrawl symptoms were pretty bad, so he used klonopin or xanax on an AS NEEDED basis, mostly for the insomnia. It was amazing how well it helped his symptoms. He got the xanax and klonopin from me, because I have a script for both and he couldn't get a script for either.

He's now been off methadone for almost 4 months and no longer needs to take benzos- he says he's never felt better in his life. My advice would be to use extreme caution if you decide to use klonopin, NOT to take it every day to avoid dependence. Meth. withdrawl is hell enough, you don't want benzo dependence or withdrawl on top of that (I know first hand the benzo addiction aspect). If you are a strong willed person who truly wants to get off methadone and are willing to suffer through some crappy days, knowing that it will get better soon, then you will be absolutely fine. I wish you lots of luck and strength- when you get through this, you will realize you can get through anything!!

What is your story? How long were you on your drug of choice and then how long and how much were you taking of meth? How long have you been off of meth? Why did they prescribe klonopin? Thanks for the information.

banker i was on methadone for about 2 to3 yr and before that 180 vicodin every 2wks for about a year thats why iwent to methadone because the vicodin just wasnt doing its job so now ive been off methadone lets just say gong on 3 months physical withdrawals were a f-ing nightmare 5weeks of feeling like i had cinder blocks tied to my arms and legs prickly pins and needles feeling all over my body fits of rage sneezing until my whole back notted up from my neck all the way down so any way now that ive gone on and on after 8 weeks iwas still having panic attacks and rage where i just wanted to smash anything that got in my way i just kept thinking when the hell is this gonna end so finally iwent to a councelor who said i had severe anxiety ive only been taking klonopin for 2 weeks and i feel so good no more panic no more rage and the worst of it feeling like there were little pieces of brillo pad fibers in my skin are gone should only be on it for 4 to5 weeks which is probably enough time to grow a dependence but if i didnt take this id probably be in jail i would be driving and end up places that i had know reason for being there thats gone to sorry so long but sometimes i just have to get it all out im sorry so long thanx for letting me vent peace kelleigh

betachi angel ive already been through the hell of methadone detox its been almost 3 months but i was still suffering some after effects from some major anxiety i appreciate the encouragement of you telling me its ok to have a little help through the bad times i know benzos are bad and ive been very careful with them and im not saying your telling me its ok to use them but at least someone understands some times they are necessary tnax again peace kelleigh
Thanks for telling us your story. The thing is --- if you have anxiety, then take it as prescribed, knowing that it can be extremely addicting, especially to addicts. I know you don't see it know, but it really can happen to you. The thing is, as long as you realize this, then you can be careful and remember to not take more than is prescribed. Also, what I do sometimes to avoid tolerance is drop your dose down by half for a week or so and then skip a day here and there and you will be o.k. The problem comes when one or two isn't enough anymore to get the same effect. This is what has happened to me so I have to drop my dose down every now and then. I'm proud of you for getting through withdrawals of methadone. I'm on Suboxone and have to go through withdrawals one of these days but I'm doing so well, I'm not in a hurry. Good luck to you and thanks again for telling us your story.

Let me add one thing... I have major anxiety as well and I'm on an anti depressant. I would suggest that you take both because you might find that just the anti depressant is enough - and these are not addicting but very helpful with anxiety. Good luck again. Hey - I do have one question. Now that you are off methadone, how is your craving for opiates? Do you suffer hourly, daily, weekly with cravings? Any help you can give would be GREAT! Thank you again!

So were you ever a real addict or were you just on methadone for true pain? Sounds like that is the case to me. I was taking 20 lortab per day prior to Suboxone and I worry IF I get off of this, what my cravings will be like since right now - they are ZERO. K - thanks again for all of your help and take care. I'm on lexepro too - does it make you REALLY sleepy?

No, I'm glad you did. Tell me how to do that... Also, why did they ever put you on methadone for pain? Why didn't they put you on oxycontin or something like that??? Thanks for the info. I just know that I will feel like hell when I get off of Suboxone. Do you know much about Sub or know anyone that has been on it? Thx!
