Discussions that mention methadone

Addiction & Recovery board

First of all I would like to thank you for reading my post and if you have any advice at all. I would forever be greatful. For the last two year I have been taken methadone. (I do not get if from a clinic)
Anyway, I was up to taking 3 to 4 a day. I am trying so hard to come off of these pills. I am now down to 2 1/2 daily. Which is 25 mil.

Does anyone have any advice. Should I just quit cold turkey? Is there something I can buy to help with the withdrawals? I don't have insurance. But I do have the desire to quit.

How much do I bring myself down to each week? My husband is helping me. He just found out aroung 5 days ago. I think maybe he cut my dose a little fast. He cut it in half in ond day.

Any advice on what to buy or what helps or what I should do I would appreciate.

Thanks, kat
Chef has good info, slow is the key phrase here. Methadone has such a long, long half life that its essential to take the taper slowly. Reductions of 5% or less would be in order, not anywhere near 50% unless your looking for withdrawal and a most uncomfortable time.

Chef has good experience to draw upon!

history tells me that if you are goin to try and c/t right now you will relapse soon...it will be ugly for a couple weeks so try to hunker down at home on the couch....between there and the bathroom youll suffer.......i used to take 50mg of lortab 10 a day and if i was to try and quit methadone right now the second day i dont think 100 would make me feel any better........take my advice and avoid it and do a slow wean....otherwise,good luck.....
