Anemia board

two months ago I had a blood test to check on my liver because I take methotrexate for RA, my family doc also ran tests for her own records. three days ago I had my two month re chreck, also because of the methotrexate. My family Doc tells me that I am leaking blood some where because the anemia she detected two months ago is slightly worse this month. Long story longer, she has set me up for and endoscopy and a colonascopy. time out for the happy dance here. I lnow the worst part of the colonoscopy is the prep, but I have had and endoscopy, years ago and I swore I would never have anothe one. Has anyone had one recently? Please tell me your Dr. didn't stand on a ladder and jump off it with a garden hose and ram it down your throat like mine did. Seriously what is she looking for?

Relax on the endoscopy. They now have much improved instruments and put you into a very ideal light sleep which makes you unaware of the procedure or not care about it. Now as for what she is looking for: most drugs that treat RA, can cause problems with intestinal or muscosal bleeding. However, the drug methotrexate will cause all kinds of anemia symptoms specifically loss of intrinsic factor which can leave you vulnerable to stomach cancers etc. So, she is doing what a good doctor does which is checking for leaks, or ulcers that would cause you to lose blood. Hopefully, everything will be as good as possible under the circumstances of having RA.
