Hi everyone, I'm Sheila. I was on Morphine Sulfate SR for about 3 years (daily) due to chronic migraines. I started tapering off my medicine over the last 3 months or so, havent had any for 17 days. I also just quit smoking 10 days ago. I havent cheated and I havent taken any morphine whatsoever in this time. I feel like I've been VERY successful in these situations. Here's my problem. I know what Morphine withdrawal is... all too well. But I havent really found any of the "Symptom" websites that say DEPRESSION is part of it. Either I'm looking in the wrong place, or I am just imagining that I"m depressed. I dont know. I have no energy, I dont want to go anywhere, I am short tempered, and I am NOT sleeping well. I go to bed at 9 and wake up at 3 AM every single night. I'm so frustrated! I usually get a nap during the day, which I've never had to do... if this is related to the morphine withdrawal, does anyone know how long this lasts? I do not want to go on any drugs for depression- I'm so very tired of all this medicine. There's a pill for everything if you want it. Anyway... does anyone know if there's a time period that people just GO thru this? Thanks for your help. Sheila
Hi Sheila,

I don't know about morphine withdrawal but if you quit smoking that also plays into it. Nicotine is a stimulant - so if you remove the stimulant you will be more lethargic!

Good for you and keep going.

Now that's interesting..... I never considered the nicotine. But I am using the patch.... so I'm still getting Nicotine- just not the other junk. I've got 11 days no smoking, and 18 days no Morphine. I just feel like I dont want to put one foot in front of the other..... But... Last night I slept *FINALLY* straight thru the night, almost 9 hours, which might do me a LOT of good. We'll see. If anyone has any info on Morphine Withdrawal and Depression... let me know. I appreciate the reply.... Sheila

I am going through opiate withdrawl right now myself. I quit taking the duragesic fentanol patch cold turkey and that is supose to be stronger than morphine. I am 13 days into it now. Things are finally settleing down and I am starting to feel somewhat better. I read lots of things on the internet saying depression can come with opiate withdrawl. So be careful and you are not crazy.
Hi Shelia-
Everything you are experiencing is totally normal-esp..depression.My God-the depression is so intense b/w the lethargy...plus quitting smoking on top of the morphine...its alot to undertake..

You are doing really well-and i wish you all the best..
