How helpful do you find morphine to be? My Doc just started me on it, but i am afraid to take it. Is it a good pain reliver and are there any wierd side effects.
Thanks for any advice.
What do U mean by morphine? There are 100 types of drugs in the morphine variety.
Is it just plain morphine or Oxycodone, Methadone or Hydrocodone? I use 1/2 of
Lortab 7 (hydrocodone) & get great relief for 4 hrs. Some people just get loopy or
sleepy but I do fine. I get slt. dizzy if I take a whole one & it effects stomache. It
just depends on what med & `your' response. I tried Percocet & it did zip. I only take
mine when it's painful just to walk. You benefit alot from sleep so try it before bed
w/ some food.
Its just Morphine sulfate 15 mg.
Smack, You're the 1st person I've heard of that has been given liquid morphine. I
don't understand why unless U can't swallow pills? Morphine is a narcotic/analgesic.
It's unstable to take in liq. as U can overdose easy. Not all spoons are correct. Also
inconvenient. I'd try it now that you have it. Maybe take 1/2 of suggested dose as
a trial? Once opened, it has a questionable life. Ask for a pill form next call. Ck. if it
needs to be in frig. after opened. Liq. also absorb different. Very strange...

 Hi, I noticed that you stated it's painful for you to walk. My feet have been burning and aching for about 2 months now. They seem to be getting worse. What are your symtoms with your feet? Maybe if it's the same as mine I can relate this information to my foot doctor so that maybe he will understand that other people with Fibro have the same symtoms with their feet. Thanks
This is my first post so I hope I get it right.
I can talk to you about Morphine. I started out on the dosage you are being given.
At first it may make you feel a bit loopy but the pain relief you get is the best that
there is out there I have found. Sadly the affects wear off gradually and you have to
increase the mgs every so often. After 3 years on it I am now on MSContin which is
sustained release and I take 90mg every 8 hours. That is a lot and I am now peaked
out because if I take more it does not help more any longer. Sadly when switched to
other meds I have adverse reactions so I am searching for alternative pain relief methods.
I have severe level 10 pain and the MS Contin takes me down to about an average of 7.
Therefore without it I can not walk or get up and around at all.. Without it I am at the
emergency room. The side effects are minimal if you really need the medication. If you
dont or are taking too much you get loopy and tired and drag around. The other thing that
it has done to me is numbed my digestive system out and since I already have IBS it has
made it a huge struggle and my digestive system is stagnent literally. It is bad and I have
to really watch what I eat. Laxatives do not even work since it is so slow I just get stomach
craps from the stimulates since they do not make it down to where they need to be. Well
enough details about that. But I would not hesitate to take the medication. Also if you
really need it then you do not feel any addictive feelings because you are not getting any
sort of high off the medication. Just pain relief> I also take LorTab for break through pain.
Good luck.
Let me know how it goes.

I've been taking morphine sulphate for about a year now. It works well for me. I started taking it for TMJ before I was even diagnosed with Fibro. At first I was taking 3 in the morning & 2 at night. It was a pretty good dose, and I had the typical side effects...drowsiness, a bit dizzy, light headed, etc. Then by what I believe was a miricle my TMJ pain went away, and I began weening off the morphine, and discovered the Fibro. My Dr. continued to let me take the morphine for the Fibro, and while in the original flare, I needed that larger dose. Now, 7 months later, things have leveled out, and I am only taking one in the morning and one at night, and I don't notice any side effects at all.

One thing I might mention. I was very careful with it, I took as little as possible. When I started to feel better, I tried less to see if it would work as well. I would rather err on the side of caution. For one thing Drs. are more likely to trust you, if you aren't running out all the time. Good luck!
In reference to morphine, I have been on 2-different types now since 2003 due to an accident related to my back. I'm now trying to ween myself off of it and get control of my life. The 2-types of morphine are Kadian 30mg for in the morning and 50mg for at night and then there is the morphine sulphate 15mg for break though pain during the day. I will say that after being on it this long, trying to ween myself off of it is not easy. My body is going through symptoms like the DT's (hot & cold sweats, anxiety attacks, insomia, nausea, diarrhea). However, I'm bound and determined to get past this and be in control again. The cost of these meds even with insurance has become entirely too much. Not to mention the damage they do on ones body over time. I realize that I might have to do something with the pain later on in life but for right now, I've found that through routine, I'm able to control a good portion it. I truly wished that I would have never started taken medication of this strength. Especially if I would have been told the side effects of trying to stop taking them. Of course the Doctor never mentioned any of this up front either. Any ways, I hope that this post has been or will be of some assistance to some of you. Thanks.
I can't tell you how glad you brought this up! Reading other peoples responses have given me something to think about.

Someone said Kadian was another form of morphine which my doc told me. it made me very tired and I couldn't function at all. but it helped. w/ the discomfort. B/c I couldn't even take care of my family I began to take opana which helped some but not much. at my request today I began the kadian again twice a day. I am not tired now, but I am not sure how it will go as far as being tired. for several yra I have been on Actic 8oomg prn for breakthrough pain sonit would cut down the need for going to ER for injections. I haad to go a week w/o the kadian and actic but got none of the symptomms others have mentioned, but maybe I wasn't off it long enough. But I'll tell you, w/o them the pain jumped to a 12!!!!! I was on kadian for about a month and experienced no problems coming off it , other than great pain b/c I tried opana b/c was so tired.maybe i wasn't on it long enough to get that way...

I am glad you mentioned foot pain, but sorry you have it. Lately over that past month or two the top of my feet begin to really hurt, shoes and even socks cause pain. I ahve to wear a pair of slippers that are soft and on the loose side for about an hour or so. Went to doc today and mentioned it, she checked them and the pedal pulses but found no answer other than it was prob part of fibro. the pain in my feet gets really painful about a10 at times. It startes on top of feet then migrates ot all of the feet.then the pain the other prob.areas kick in.
I really hope they can help you w/ the foot pain.
