Discussions that mention morphine

Pain Management board

Hey CPT,

TID means three times daily. I think I posted on a previous post from you about MsContin and OxyContin. On that post a couple of us mentioned that TID dosing should cover you better with MSContin.

One thing to remember is that Oxycodone is approximately 1.5 x stronger than Morphine. You said you were taking 30 mg a day of OxyContin? So if you are now taking a total of 45 mg daily of Morphine, then thats about right.

I doubt you will have any W/D's from the Oxy since you switched to a close equianalgesic dose of Morphine. You also have not been taking Oxy that long, right?

As far as BT meds, some Dr's will prescribe them and some won't. You may want to give the MSContin with the TID dosing a few weeks and see how it works for you. I would keep a log of your pain and that way you can show your Dr any BT pain that you are having. BT meds are for that only. Its hard to say what dose is appropriate for you as everyone is different. If you find yourself needing a large amount of BT meds, then your base dose (LA Med) probably needs adjusted.

I hope the MSContin works out for you. Keep us posted.
