Hello:
Short intro: I am a chronic back pain sufferer. Last week I was admitted to te hospital to try to get pain control. I was placed on morphine and vicodin for berakthrough pain. I remember the nurses listening to my abdomin and commenting that had bowel noises and that I was probably going to have a BM soon. Well, I am on day 12 of no bowel movement! I've been taking 2-3 fiber laxatives for the past 3 nigts but still nothing. I was told I should see my family doctor today but my car is in the shop so I won't be able to go.
I've started to feel some really intense pains in the lower left side of my abdomin with pain radiating to my back. My questions: could this cause a bowel obstruction? What would I feel if this were happening? Is there anything I can do at this point to avoid an obstruction? Hubby recommended an enema but I'm not sure that is a good idea. What do you guys think?
Thanks.
Cindy
