Discussions that mention morphine

Pain Management board

Lou, I don't know if it's the same thing, but I had a reaction when given morphine (opana is LA morphine right?). I asked my doc about it and he said some people get a feeling of inpending doom when on it. Thats how I felt as well, but thank goodness it wasn't for long, but i just got 1 shot of SA morphine, so it wouldn't last long.

I hope you feel better and find something else for pain that works.

Hi, I am allergic to morphine too (tho can take oxycontin in smaller doses) - it gives me akasthesia (sp?) and massive anxiety. I saw a diagnostic psychiatrist and he explained to me that opioids both stimulate and depress pain receptors - in my case it obviously excited them and made me massively anxious - I had to catch a plane home whilst going through this and I honestly wanted to jump out, it was the most terrible experience of my life. I don't know if this is the case with you but you can get testing done - in a PET machine, I think...it's expensive though. Xanax really helps and so does valium, there are also special medications for akasthesia that can be given to you but it does have to be diagnosed. Stemetil and maxalon also give me akasthesia. Not sure if this is the case with you but if it is...get help - it's pretty terrible. Take care and let us know how you go.
