Hi Kim... they have not suggested patches yet... they just prescribed morphine pills which he has been alternating with the Norco...

yesterday was pretty rough... he was actually having a better "pain" day but we got our first visit from the home care nurse... she was nice and I am sure knows what she is doing...however..she had no thermometer and no way to take his oxygen saturation... isnt a thermometer "nurse 101"??? and if he has lung problems...dont you want to check oxygen levels???

anyway...everything was okay and she was going to change the dressng for his chest tube and suggested if he wanted to take a shower it would be a good time then she could change it afterward... well...he got in there and I think messed with the old dressing and the tube came out!!!! the suture (sp?)had broken again....I ran and got her and she tried to get it back but it wouldnt go (prob not a good idea)...his throracic surgeon was in OR and said the only thing we could do is take him to ER! anyway...to try and shorten this story... we had to push him to let us call 911 b/c there was no way he could sit in the waiting room like he is... they almost turned him away where we wanted him to go b/c it was full! but luckily they got him in...we were there for about 5 hours... fortunately and unfortunately the dr couldnt get the tube back in and was going to have to "make a new track" so he called the throacic surgeon to consult... and then he (thoracic DR) spoke with Chris... The lung wasnt opened up fully so they still couldnt do talc so decided to go ahead and not put the tube back in. We just hope that the fluid doesnt build back up too quickly...dont want him to have to be tapped again!
I am glad the tube is out...but it makes me a little sad b/c it represents that not much can be done now. They were able to give him fluids though which is good...he was getting dehydrated....b/t that and the tube being out..maybe he will have a few "better" days....
Now that the tube is out...he could maybe start chemo but I dont know if he wants to..I will have to speak to him about it.... I dont know how beneficial it would be at this point.....
I am pretty tired today but have to work... I am fortunate they are letting me work at home...but at the same time it means I never get to leave work!
