Discussions that mention paxil

Are people supposed to take Buspar and benzodiazapines together? I've been taking Buspar 3 times a day, and a tiny piece of Klonopin once a day as well, along with Paxil. Thanks.

I know I should just ask my doctor, but I want to check with some of you first to see if you've done this. I don't take huge quantities of Klonopin, just a tiny piece of it, and I take full dosages of Buspar and Paxil. It's just that the Buspar and Paxil are taking a long time to work and in the meantime I'm freaking out, I need a short term fix. Any advice or past experience, stories would be great. Thanks.

Thanks for replying. Are you still taking them both together? I have been taking Klonopin about every other day, .25 mg or even 1/8 of a milligram for three weeks.

I have been taking Paxil for 1 month, and that's supposed to take about 1-2 months to go into effect (but it hasn't yet, I don't think).

I have only been taking the Buspar for 5 days. And that takes 2-4 weeks to go into effect.

So in the meantime, I was still taking the Klonopin, since the other two did not seem to "kick in" yet. I was trying to taper the Klonopin down in anticipation of the Paxil working soon. But the Buspar is still too recent; I've only been taking it for 5 days, it needs 14 to 30 days to work, so I need *something* to help with the anxiety.

I notice every time I don't take the tiny bit of Klonopin for a while (an entire day), I feel terrible, almost worse than when I started it. Could I be having withdrawal effects from such a small dose of Klonopin (only .25 mg once a day, or 1/8 of a milligram twice a day) and I've only been taking Klonopin for three weeks (almost a month)???

I guess if I feel this way again, I'll take just one tiny 1/8 mg piece for the day, and pray my Buspar & Paxil work soon. Also will try to get cheap psychiatric consult (since have no health insurance) :(

No I have stopped the Buspar because my anxiety was worse for a couple of days. So I backed down to just Xanax while I try and figure it out. I'm curious, why did your doctor prescribe both Paxil and Buspar? In my case I have a constant state of anxiety with derealization. So far I'm not having much success.

Actually they should not have prescribed both. I was not beign closely monitored by a psychiatrist. Just my general family practice doctor called those in. She suggested Klonopin first and called that in, and I called her 2 wks later and asked her to call in Buspar and she did so. Gee I have one nice doctor huh? Just kidding. She should be monitoring me more closely but that is not her field.

So anyway today I got a psychiatric consult. I went to a low-income place. The Paxil and Buspar combo is no longer working, so they're gonna switch my antidepressant to Effexor and combine it with Klonopin for 2 weeks then go off of the Klonopin. And no more Buspar. Finally I'm getting an experienced opinion tailored to my needs-hopefully this med will take, no bad side effects or anything.

My psych prescribed Effexor also, but I don't have depression. I wonder how it will work for anxiety?

The psychiatrist told me that Effexor is good for treating both anxiety and depression. first it hits the anxiety receptors and acts similar to an SSRI and at higher levels then it hits the depression receptors because at higher levels dopamine is released or something like that. so he said it's good for both anxiety and depression.

I"m starting effexor Monday, maybe we could have a "check in" here each day to see how our symptoms are. I'm praying for at least some relief, not a miracle, just some relief, and I'd like it to last a while, the last drug I took (SSRI Paxil) lasted about 2 or 2 1/2 yrs before it wore off, I know that is a long time but in teh long run I'd like it to be longer, those were the best yrs of my life :)

Are you going to use the Klonopin also?
