I think derealization is like many other things, it usually can be controlled, but only in few instances does it go away and never come back. I suffer from this and have learned to deal with the episodes through group therapy. I also take 10mg of Paxil, which hasn't eliminated the panic attacks or the derealization episodes, but it has minimized them a great deal. They wanted to put me on more meds, but I prefer to stay where I am so I can continue to learn ways of controlling it so I will soon be off meds. You have to remember you are in controll of the situation...though you seem helpless you must learn techniques to help you get through it. One of the best things I learned is "self talk". Continue to remind yourself that you are ok and learn some breathing techniques. These things can be of great help. Good luck to you!!!
