First of all, I'd like to say hi to everyone here on the forum, I'm new here and have been reading some posts and even responded to a few for the past couple of days. It seems like a nice place to come and speak to others, and to ask questions, or to get some support. I'll do my best to answer any questions I see posted that I have knowledge about, and also to encourage others that they can feel great and overcome anxiety no matter how bad they feel now. I know because I've felt very bad and had strong anxiety at times for years, only to feel great after treatment for a few years also. To my main question, I know this is probably an age old debate, but I am currently undergoing treatment for Panic Disorder, and also have some symptoms or features of a few of the other Anxiety Disorders, like GAD, Social Anxiety Disorder, and OCD. I have successfully treated my Anxiety with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure Therapy to be basically symptom free for 2 years. About a year ago a seem to have started to have problems again, and now I have relapsed with Panic like symptoms being the main problem right now. I've also become very agoraphobic. It's been recommended to me to try an SSRI like Fluvoxamine (Luvox) or Paroxetine controlled release (Paxil CR) to ease my symptoms and help the therapy along. I've been reluctant to take any medication. I know the National Institute of Mental Health and most experts say that SSRI's are the first line of treatment for Panic disorder, but the results from most of the things I've read online seem to not confirm this, and in some cases it seems that the response rates are not much higher than placebo, except in very large doses. I also know it's an individual thing and no one can tell you the answer for yourself, so I'm not looking for MY answer, I'm just looking for opinions or stories from people who have been successfully or unsuccessfully treated with either medications or with CBT and Exposure therapy. Does anyone have any advice, stories, or opinions they wouldn't mind sharing about whether or not Antidepressants are the answer?
