Discussions that mention potassium

Diet & Nutrition board

Hi, I just did an analyses (computerized) of this menu using Healthy Choice(HC) Chicken Parmigiana, and HC Sirloin Tips as the entrees, and apples for the fruit, and Sunkist Fresh OJ & Special K (1 cup)cereal:

Calories = 1323

Carbs = 67%, protein = 22.9%, total fats = 10.1%

Saturated fats = 66.6% (oooooooo! bad #!)
Mono fats = 11%, Poly fats = 22.4%

Fiber = 10.07gms (ONLY!)
Cholesterol = 145mgs

Provides only 50% or LESS of magnesium, potassium, and Vit E & B12

Provides OVER 100% (some of the non-water soluable Vits, like A, are over 300%!)
of Vits A, C, D, B6, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, and folate.

Not quite 100% of iron, zinc, and sodium
Yes, you'll lose weight, for awhile. But with such a high SIMPLE carbohydrate diet, you're likely to GAIN after awhile, plus set the stage for onset of type II diabetes, cholesterol and heart problems. Liver/pancreas/gallbladder wouldn't like it much, either. Watch taking vitamin supplements with this, too. You CAN overdose on certain vits, and this plan has a VERY unbalanced assortment. Of course, that is assuming you actually ABSORB the vits in it. With such a low fiber content, it's more likely that the intestines would tend to block, preventing much absorption. That's also assuming that this highly processed food digests slowly enough to allow for absorption.

Well, sorry to be such a downer ( ), but it never hurts to investigate. For a short term fix, this is probably OK, barring any existing health issues. But, as a long term solution, or way of life, it doesn't present as being very healthy.
