Discussions that mention potassium

Diet & Nutrition board

I recently found out that my blood pressure is very high. Before I get on meds, I want to try to just control this through diet changes. I have been looking into the DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). It includes:

-limiting salty and fatty foods
-eating more fruits, veggies and low-fat dairy foods, eating more whole grain products, fish poultry, and nuts
-eating less red meat and sweets
-eating foods rich in magnesium, potassium and calcium

This is enough info to get me started, but I'd still like to hear more ideas, especially from other people who have struggled with hypertension.
