Discussions that mention potassium

High & Low Blood Pressure board

I was wondering if anyone could give some insight on sudden palpitations? I am on four different medications for high blood pressure and the control is still not great. Last night I suddenly started having palpitations, with a "skipped or early" beat about 5-15 times per minute. My blood pressure was its normal - mildly high, but nothing horrible - about 140's/90's probably. I had eaten popcorn earlier in the evening, so I dranks some water and went ahead and took my potassium supplement (10meq), but the palps persisted for over an hour. I finally went to bed and they were there during the night when I woke up, but gone this morning.

I am also diabetic with not great control - just starting to really work on both of these.

Any ideas what might have caused the palpitations?
