First, relax.

It sounds as simple as a muscle spasm. Try an over the counter pain reliever of your choice, and place ice and heat on your back, alternating. Don't use the ice for more then 10 minutes at a time. If the ice is painful, then just stick with the heat.

Make sure you have enough potassium in your diet. If you're unsure, eat a banana or two each day - lots of potassium in bananas. Low potassium can cause muscle cramps and spasms.

But most importantly, relax. If there's no improvement after a few days give your doctor a call.
