This is something I've investigated, and good call in bringing up this thread! Re melatonin: its BP lowering effect is believed to be through ensuring uninterrupted sleep, which is critical for health BP (and hence why sleep apnea is so dangerous).

Re inflammation, Andrew Weil talks quite a lot about an "anti-inflammation diet," which has as its cardinal rule, the avoidance of inflammation-causing foods. These are primarily processed goods with trans fats---pastries, crackers, etc. Too much red meat as well, is an inflammatory. And too much of the wrong kind of oils, and I apologize for forgetting WHICH of these, so its easier to say just stick to GOOD oils: olive, grapeseed, avocado, walnut. I strongly recommend grapeseed oil for cooking: it is like light olive oil, is actually healthier, and best has a high smoke point for sauteeing.

Ok, re anti-inflammation supplements: fish oil is good, as are the following "Big Three": evening primrose, borage, and black currant.

One final thought: researchers say its critical to have more Omega 3 vs. Omega 6 fatty acids then vice versa...sort of like how its critical to have more potassium to sodium then vice versa.
