Anemia board

Hi just wanted to let everyone Know I made it through the surgery ok, I lost alittle blood it dropped back down to 6, so I am still on 120 mg prednisone until I go back to my hemo tommorow, I pray that this works, and It will help correct the anemia.I am doing ok, sore but doing good. Hope everyone has wonderful holidays!

Debeeg, maybe I missed a posting here or something, but what type of surgery did you have?
Hey Debeeg How r you feeling? Did you go back to the doctors yet? I was just wondering what ur counts were? I went to the Hemo on Wednesday and he is now telling me to consider having my spleen out! :( I have been playing with the option since Aug. I thought by now by counts would be up but as of last week they are going down I am now at 7.9!

I think I am just going to surrender my spleen now :( I have had enough and he has upped the prednisone to 50 mg and I am going insame!!!!!!!!! I told him I would up the meds just until next Wednesday when I see him again and I am totally going off this poison!!!!!!!

Well please let me know how ur doing! :) take care Marilyn
Deb,

How are you feeling? Are you finding any improvement with respect to need for prednisone after the splenectomy? What is your hemoglobin at now? Did the do the surgery by "traditional" means or by laproscopic methods? I am very curious to know only because it is always hanging over my head as the next course of action if the steroids don't work.

By the way, last time I had my hemoglobin checked it was 11.6 (wow!) at 20 mg of prednisone. I am going to be attempting to taper to 5 mg over the next few months.

I hope you managed to have a good holiday even with the recovery from surgery.

My count is going up, They are feeling really posative, I have not had to have a transfusion, and they are wheening me off of the prednisone and my count is still staying up, so it looks good so far, yeah!!!!!
Hey Debeeg Glad to hear things are going well blood count up, being weaned off prednisone what could be better :)

I go back to the hemo tomorrow and I guess I will start discussing what I am going to do as far as the spleen but I have to get my cbc up it is now at 7.9 & I am being a good girl & taking against my will the 40mg of Pred. :(

What kind of surgery did u have the open or lap. for the removal of the spleen?
Any information u can pass my way will be helpful. Feel better
Marilyn
Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you all know when I wnet into my hemo last week my count was up to 11.5, So he lowered me down from 120 mg prednisone to 80, I was suppose to go in today, but we had a snow storm so I had to reschedule until tomorrow. My hemo says it looks real good, and if my count stays as I am being wheened off of the prednisone then the spleen removal was a success, I hope it does, I have been on 120 mg, for going on 3 months, and am sleeping only a few hours a night. I am feeling really good, and I will let everyone know what my count is tomorrow.
