Discussions that mention prednisone

Sorry that you are having such a hard time getting rid of your pain. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 15 years ago. I finally was sent to a rhumatologist about 6 years ago...was put on prednisone and pain medications....
ok...almost 4 years ago I fell....I herniated my C5-6 disc....and hurt my lower back also..(which I am still trying to get "fixed") The rhumy...said oh no, don't do any surgery on your neck...here let me schedule massage, and trigger point injections etc.....then when I went to schedule them, oh, well these appts. are full, you have to wait another 5 weeks.....that's right, 5 more weeks....THE PAIN.....naw....I switched to a neurosurgeon...finally a year later I had an acdf on my neck....
That stuff might have been fine (usually isn't) for the fibro...but not for the neck....nothing worked on that sucker...epi's, meds, PT, massage, accupunture....

When I went to my neurosurgeon he said that Fibro was a waste basket diagnosis...well, gee, I was very upset, I know I have fibro....and it hurts, but in a different way from the herniated disc. Then recently I changed primary care physicians, and he said the same thing...wastebasket!!!!! Not a good start. So now when I go to a new dr...or neurosurgeon, I do not tell them I have fibromyalgia....I have been dealing with the fibro for many years, and the meds. that they give me for my back pain, help the fibro too!!!
I know it may not be wise to tell the doctors about the fibro, but why set myself up for ridicule. When and if the back gets better, and I no longer need meds for it, I will deal with the fibro again.

Make sure you get a Dr. that is good, ask people, ask your doctors, and keep going to you get one that you feel confident about, and who also is good to you. It's important.
