Help! I have been in severe pain for over a year. It is in my lower back and hips right now. I have been to many specialists and now at a rheumatologists who thought I had ankylosing spondylitis. My blood came back negative and so did my bone scan so I am waiting for my MRI on Friday. All my symptoms look like AS, with constant inflammation in my lower back and hips, worse in the morning, but now it lasts all day. The pain makes it difficult to walk and move. Two years ago I had knee surgury for torn cartiledge and noone could explain why since I was never a huge athelete. Now the pain is so bad that I am taking more Combunox (oxycodone/ibuprofen) then recommended and still can't move well. I've been on prednisone and it helped for a few weeks but now does nothing. I can feel the inflammation all around the hip and lower back area and a pain management doctor last year even commmented on it and couldn't explain it. A spine specialist said my x-ray showed a hugely abnormal facet joint with large osteophyte. He said that is where all my pain is coming from and it does explain the sharp, catching pain that occurs throughout the day, but not the deep constant pain and stiffness in my hips and rest of back. I am terrified that the MRI will say negative as well because I NEED a diagnosis. Each specialist keeps sending me to another and no one can figure it out. Can I test negative on the blood test and scan and still have ankylosing spondylitis. As much as I don't want the disease, at least it's something to work with. Does anyone have any information?
