Discussions that mention prednisone

I'm being checked for rheumatoid arthritis, the doctor said one of the tests came back high, he put me on prednisone for 2 weeks and said if it helps the arthritis then he knows it is rheumatoid arthritis.

Will all the pain & stiffness go away from being on prednisone or will it just help some? Because I've been on it for a week, some days its better, but today the pain is pretty bad.
I don't know if you are seeing a primary care, or a rheumatoligist.
what dose are you taking of the prednisone?
I think this is rather unusual to give you the med as a diagnosis aid, but not unheard of.

please describe your symptoms in more detail.
I have had RA since 1983, so am familiar with it.
Prednisone has worked very well for me, but I know people who haven't found relief with it.
It's important that you see a Rheumatologist for proper treatment. The longer the inflammation is active, the more damage is being done to your joints that could be irreversible.
Nothing wrong with looking into Natural Remedies, but do see an RA doc and discuss treatment options as soon as possible. Get as much information as you can.
The Arthritis Foundation might send you free booklets.
I was on 15 mg of prednisone for the first week, then the dose went to 10 mg daily. I don't want to be on the prednisone because of the weight gain issue, I already have a problem with weight gain. I am currently seeing a rheumatologist, they said the bone scan showed that all my joints were inflamed. The worst of my pain is in my hands and my hips...but I hurt also in my shoulders, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles, toes and spine. I guess that about covers it. He mentioned giving me cortisone shots in my hips, but I'm afraid it will be too painful. Some days I feel pretty good and don't have alot of pain and other days its unbearable. Alot of times my hands-fingers are stiff and painful in the morning. Sometimes I wake up and my hands are numb until I start moving them around.
I've been on prednisone almost 3 weeks and it has helped the pain...it doesn't completely take away the pain but it makes the pain more bearable.
Tell me about your symptoms of Rheumatoid arthritis, does it make you feel weak? Some days I'm so weak and in so much pain, that I just sleep all day.
