Discussions that mention prednisone

wild thang,
you're a kind hearted person too and yes, they still do exist in this world.
I've found alot of kind people all over the world on this computer. it's so cool to be able to correspond via internet. it's truly amazing!

now, about prednisone and you're parents waiting to use this as an option.
I've heard very good results from prednisone but they do have side effects.
it's used as an anti inflamatory for many conditions like arthritis, ashthma, irritable bowel syndrome and many other illnesses.

I'm sure the dr. will warn you of the potential risks before you take it.

Carry an identification card that indicates that you may need to take supplementary doses (write down the full dose you took before gradually decreasing it) of prednisone during periods of stress (injuries, infections, and severe asthma attacks). Ask your pharmacist or doctor how to obtain this card. List your name, medical problems, drugs and dosages, and doctor's name and telephone number on the card.

This drug makes you more susceptible to illnesses.
If you are exposed to chicken pox, measles, or tuberculosis (TB) while taking prednisone, call your doctor. Do not have a vaccination, other immunization, or any skin test while you are taking prednisone unless your doctor tells you that you may.

Report any injuries or signs of infection (fever, sore throat, pain during urination, and muscle aches) that occur during treatment.

Your doctor may instruct you to weigh yourself every day. Report any unusual weight gain.

If you have diabetes, prednisone may increase your blood sugar level.

I guess with most drugs there are going to be some side effects, which does not mean it will happen to you, but they have to mention it by law.

I've heard great things about prednisone and I hope that you're able to be put on something that does help you when you have your flair ups.
I didn't realize that you have flair up's like I do. I thought when a stage has progressed to your level that you're in constant pain and I was relieved to hear from you that you're feeling better today.
I thought my god!, is this going to happen to me up the road? I can't imagine feeling the discomfort I do now on certain days all the time.

I was just doing minor things physically two days ago and I am now paying dearly for it in my hips and back terribly. I can barely stand up and move when I get out of bed. I am going to be moving in the next two weeks and I can't imagine how I'm going to help my b/f move anything because I KNOW I will wind up in pain days after.
this is normal living? my sister who's 61 yrs old told me "wait! it gets worst".
like that's what I need to hear about aging? she's not positive in that aspect at all. I dont' need to hear negative things like that.
anyway,
keep in touch and let us know what's your next plan of attack.
so glad to hear you're doing better for now.
I wish you the best,

Linda
Linda,
Thankyou for all the help with the drug prednisone. (even my specialist didnt go into detail about it like that, only saying its like out last resort for pain relief)
My boyfriend also has to take prednisone, like you say in periods of stress where he has major asthma attacks that last weeks.. its seem kinda funny i found a guy that has so many health issues too huh? Although i am definitly not complaining because i feel like the luckiest girl in the world because i have him.
But his situation seem so bad.. i feel we are equal when you countthe pain of mine, he is allergic to nature pretty much although his "reactions" are slowly getting less worse and less often as he gets older.
he is also allergic to preservatives, additives, artificial flavours and colours, cant eat dark chocolate, sausages, mince, peppermint (artificial and real) and all animals that have fur which they mault. there are many more which i just cant remember all of them.
so sometimes i feel lucky.. but then he has learnt to live with what he has and avoids all things that he cannot eat.. i sound so selfish when i say this but i am in pain everyday all day where as he will have an affect for about one to two weeks and its over...
is that selfish of me? i just wish that that was me and my bones.. id only be sore for that length of time every so often.. not every morning night and day.
wow your sister really doesnt think that positive eh? (no offence to you or her) but i guess that makes the pain 10 times worse, the worse you think it is.
yeah some times it is hard to put on a face and act like you are okay but its not like being miserable all the time will do anybody any good.
maybe when you move you should ask some friends or family to help you so that you can take it easy?
because you will be in agony later.. i mean some household things are really heavy... and even lifting a simple box that weighs so little can do you damage.. especially when you are prone to a sore back and hips etc.
personally i dont think you should do it.
(no offence)
im sure your boyfriend would understand? he wouldnt want you in pain.
i hope things go well, and do let me know. thankyou for all the help and the advice, like i said to Wen, i know i say thanks alot but i really do appriciate it and it means so much!
