Menopause board

I have stopped the hormone replacement therapy and then started with the hot flashes and the doctor put me on Prozax. So far, so good. I hope it lasts.
Has anyone tried an antidepressant for hot flash relief? Has anyone had any side effects from Prozac. Has it worked for anyone? Thanks for your help.

I was on Effexor XR and the sweating/flashes became even worse. Weaning off the Effexor was pure torture. Therefore, I am back on bio-identical hormones and will stick to those rather than go through that again.
I am on prozac. I get cold flashes more than the hot. I feel the prozac has helped the depression. It took about a month or two to really have an effect I could tell. This fall I could feel myself slipping emotionally. As far as the flashes, Keeping my blood sugar up is the best defence i have found. Eating well and often. I include protien in my snacks too(string cheese, yougart, etc). I am also including more soy in my diet.(milk and spiru-teen) and I bought progesterone cream today at my health store.!($19.99!!!) It better work!
I was looking at the supplements today at the health store. There is so much out there for us. Whether they work or not? Maybe try an estrogen supplement? bless you!
I would love to get off the prozac. I am 42 and was absolutly clueless on what was happening to me. Starting at 41, I started the peri symptoms. Finally, a friend of mine told me about peri-menopause. I thought I was losing my mind! I had no idea my body would begin to wind down before the "end". I have only known this for about a month of two.

This where I am right now, knowing I am peri. I see my obgyn in March for my annual. I am trying different supplements to see what works for me.
1-calsium and magnisium(1000/500) have helped stomach palpatations and the heart racing.
2-trying get more soy into diet for hot/cold flashes.
3-prozac has helped depression and anxiety, would rather go natural supplements(any ideas?)
4-trying maca, no idea if it is helping at this point.
5-valarian for occasional insomnia.

I heard some negative things about black cohash. Is that true?
I have a book on peri, and she doesnt recommend a soy supplement. So I have yet to buy one.

I will be sure to share any supplements that have a positive effect on this board.
