Discussions that mention prozac

Family & Friends of the Mentally Ill board

Hi there! I live with someone who is bipolar and he was diagnosed after being hospitalized last February. We have a daughter together who is 2 years old and his diagnosis happened when she was only 10 months old. Needless to say, I was and continue to be overwhelmed with being a new mommy, working fulltime, keeping up with his ups and downs, analyzing anything that may or may not be a "sign" of a manic episode or depression, over-compensating for his highs or lows so that our daughter does not "feel" them as much. It's exhausting and sometimes you do feel resentful. I understand that he cannot control the illness outside of taking the medication, however, I am only human and can only do so much to help him while taking care of the other things that are going on in our lives. He was very sedated while taking Zyprexa and Prozac (the last two years) and he would sleep all day and all night if he could. But he recently changed to lithium and continues to take his prozac as well and he is showing more humor, more energy and sleeps less too. Medication affects everyone differently but I feel like the lithium allows more of his "real" personality show through while the other combination sucked the life out of him.

Where do you live? Does your husband work? I live in California.

I think we have similarities in our situations and would love to be there to talk to and confide in. Feel free to email me anytime. Hope all is well.
