Discussions that mention prozac

Thyroid Disorders board

First of all, let me say I TOTALLY understand your frustration. Been there. Done that.
Second, if your doctor won't answer your questions, it means one of two things-either he's cramming patients in a small time frame thus limiting the time available to spend with each patient or (and I strongly suspect this probably is the case) he knows didley squat about the thyroid and likes to go only by the #'s and not the symptoms.
I had that dx of anxiety and depression before the hypo dx and was taking Ambien to help me sleep. I did have trouble sleeping. I was anxious and depressed. But once I began treatment for my hypo (doc said I was 'just a little' hypo-yeah, right), all those symptoms slowly went away.
I hope I'm not being too forward in asking if you're taking meds for depression? If so, are they working? I took Prozac and Xanax at the same time and still wound up in the ER telling the doc I was afraid I was going to kill myself. The meds for depression and anxiety did nothing for me. I don't take anti-d's anymore. Since I've been on thyroid meds, that's all in the past.
You didn't give your lab ranges with your #'s and I don't know much about all the tests you had done so I would hesitate to comment on that. From what I understand, some of those tests are 'old school'. I didn't see a free t3 or free t4. That's the active part of those hormones. You really should ask the doc to test those. You could have a problem converting t4 to t3.
Drs who want to treat the symptoms without first searching for the cause should be hung by their toenails!
I once told my old doc I wouldn't wish this on even him.
Hang in there. Stick to your guns and don't settle for feeling like crap. You sound like a very strong willed person. That's great! It'll help you get through this.
Take care.
