I have been dx with ptsd, I am now on Lexapro for over a month I feel no better, has anyone had success with other meds?
please let me know
thanks!

what milligrams are you taking of the Lexapro? You might have to increase it. I'm taking Prozac and my Psych wants me to increase it but he has also said to feel it out for myself. Now I've been taking it for about 5 weeks and it's just starting to really help me. You need to give the medicine usually 6-8 weeks before you really feel and see a difference. What other meds are you taking? Are you taking any Xanax or Klonopin, valium, etc.? I notice I have to take a pinch of Xanax every now and then.

Prozac is helping and it is an old drug that was number 1 for awhile. but they have so manyout now, including Zoloft for PTSD. Lexapro is a good drug and I know people who are on it and it works well for them. Give it a another week, if it doesn't do anything for you then, report this to your doctor and they will switch you. Are you feeling panicky or ancy or just plain ole depressed on Lexapro?

I feel more anxious then depressed actually...
Hi Swalk. I'm doing okay, little dizzy here and there, still mybody is still a little shakey, but guess I'm doing better. I take a pinch of Xanax when I need it. I went to group therapy last night and didn't find the group what I thought and need to be with people who have gone through trauma. How are you doing on your meds? I'm still trying to decide if I want to up the Prozac to 20 mg. I'm taking 10 and don't seem to want to budge with that. I guess I will know when I need to up it or maybe I can kick it, but I don't see that happening for a while now. Being in perimenopause with hot flashes occasionally and then the recent trauma of my brother's death, I'm just destined to be on this for awhile. Also, I heard on the news that having hot flashes messes with the serotonin in your body and the SSRI drugs such as Prozac and Lexapro, etc. are good to take during this phase. So guess I'm heading in the right direction. How's everything with you?

Do you go to one on one therapy too? I dont think I would do well in group just because its hard for me to open up to one person.
I really did not think the meds were working but I dont feel as anxious as I did and I am at least sleeping so that is good.
Im taking things one day at a time.
How long have you been dealing with this? Do you have a hard time concentrating? I DO!
Also I cant remember anything. lol.
Quote from ainfante:
Hi there. Yeah, have a hard time remembering, get dizzy/equiliberium, and spacey, etc. I've probably had PTSD for a very long time, just came out again after car accident and totally came out again after brother's death!
Yes, I'm in one on one therapy, but wanted to try group therapy. they don't push you in group, if you're ready to talk, you talk, if not, it's okay. I love my one on one therapy, if it weren't for that, I would have really lost it. Hope all is well with you, look forward to our next chat.

I have been sooooo spacey its not even funny, cant remember what I did yesterday. I really do not think the lexapro is working I will call my Dr to see what else she wants to put me on, I did try prozac years ago after I had my first child I went thru a bit of post partum and I remember it making me feel great I told my Dr they should put it in the water. haha.
Ive been soooo irritable latley I cant even stant myself.

How are you doing? Do you have family to support you? My hubby is wonderful he tried to understand but he does not, he grew up with great parents that are still married, had a good childhood no trauma, Im happy for him but its hard to get him to understand what Im feeling but he is supportive.

The only one who really understood was my brother, and he is dead now. I will and still miss him greatly! He had PTSD from Viet Nam and my family is very dysfunctional. I know how feeling irritable gets to you, I seem to be so angry this week and last, but my therapist said that is normal. Don't expect too much from family members or others who have not worn the same moccassins as you, they really can't understand. But what I can say to you, is try to explain to them without upsetting yourself on what you are going through at the moment, if you even understand. I'm glad you are doing well and it's so good as usual to talk to you.

Andrea
Quote from Swalk:
I am glad you have some friends to count on, I do too I am blessed for that.
I go for an evaluation next thurs with a psychitrist to see if another med would be better then lexapro. I feel more anxious then depressed.

Yes, I know the feeling. I'm actually feeling both at times, but more anxious than depressed. I'm on Prozac and the Psych wants me to increase it but I don't want to. I'm still thinking about it.

What seems to be bothering you?

My anxiety comes for no reason that is what is soooo annoying to me, I really have a good life, I did not have a good childhood and that is what seems to be hauting me, I just want to be happy and normal if there is such a thing!
Quote from Tanki:
Zoloft and Remeron

do you find Zoloft to work good for you? I've heard other stories, but who knows, everything is trial and error? I'm on Prozac and wondering if it is as good as the others.

I have a question. I noticed I was a little dizzy and off balance before I took the Prozac. But now, I have this off-balanced feeling on and off through the day, almost everyday. Is this part of anxiety with PTSD or is this the Prozac?

Andrea
Quote from Tanki:
I was on Zoloft from 1996-the end of 2003 and it worked for me.

The reason why I stopped Zoloft is because after being on it for so long it just quit working....

I had no problems with it at all. I did get side effects but who doesn't with medications... :)

It's hard to tell if Prozac is making me dizzy and off-balance at times since I had a bit of this before I took the med. I believe some of these body sensitations comes from anxiety, right?

I get dizzy sometimes too could be the meds and ptsd...
I hope you doing better!
I still have the anxiety, especially when it is close to my periods and they are so off cause I'm in perimenopause and this is all HELL! ARe you taking any other meds besides the anti-depressant? I'm taking Prozac but only 10 mg. and my doc wants me to increase it to 15 and then 20 mg. They give more on Prozac before they like to switch you. I have better days than some and then bad days where I'm clenching my teeth, can't even remember what I was dreaming about. I also have Xanax just incase and I wind up taking a pinch here and there. The anxiety is horrible, I know. Like my legs were tight this morning, but I still proceeded to clean some of the house. My fingers still tremble when I use them, LOL How about you? It's better to vent about your body feelings than hold them in and let them get to you.

I have been taking the zoloft for 4 days and MY Gosh I feel so much better, I take xanex as needed 0.25 the lowest amt, and that was getting to be at least 2 times a day! Since Ive been taking the Zoloft I have not taken one xanex!!! I wish I would have started Zoloft months, years ago.... I know everyone is different but you might want to read up on it. I know even here some people love it, some dont, I just know that the lexapro was doing nothing for me. Zoloft has been around for a while,.... I think for me this will work, I hope you find what works for you! I feel soo much better.
The only side effect I have is VERY VERY weird vivid dreams!!!

good luck!

They are not going to switch me until I go up on the Prozac to 20 mg or higher. They say this is a good drug too. So I don't know anymore. How many mg. are you taking of Zoloft?

Right now Im taking 25 and next week 50 yes prozac is good too, I just wanted to let you know incase you dont feel any better on it.
I took prozac many years ago like 9 I think for about a year, at the time I loved it. Made me feel great.

I take the zoloft in the am...

The dreams are very vivid, like I feel like I am there... I have not had any bad ones yet, hope I dont get any!!!!
I believe the vivid dreams will pass. Give it about 4 weeks. Good luck with it, maybe I will begin to increase my Prozac. Do you get dizzy? I don't know if it is really dizzy, maybe the feeling of being off balance. Just curious, I believe I was feeling this before I took the Prozac, but can't entirely remember. I wonder if it is the Prozac and if I increase it, if it will make me feel more dizzy?

I have not felt dizzy with zoloft but did with lexapro. I have been getting lil headaches but they go away with tylenol and the vivid dreams...
but I feel so much better
and I hope you will soon too!
Quote from Tanki:
I was on Zoloft for 8 years, it did help me with PTSD even though I wasn't diagnosed with it until about a year ago even though I had it for 8 years. At the end of 2003 I went off of it and went on Celexa (Also on meds mainly for depression and anxiety) for 6 weeks, felt like crap, so decided with the help of my psychiatrist to get off meds completely to see how i'd be with out meds in my system after being on meds from the ages of 16-24... I crashed and currently on Remeron.

Zoloft can be used for PTSD, it's an anti-depressant, and can also be used for anxiety OCD etc.

What about Prozac? My doc gave me Prozac for PTSD. I only take 10 mg. though and he wants me on 20mg. and if that doesn't work, more! I take a pinch of Xanax everynow and then, but walk mostly in hyperviligance, LOL I just want to be conscious of everything so I can straighten out my mind and emotions and become strong again.

Andrea
I don't know much about Prozac, i guess give it time and see how it works for you.
