Discussions that mention prozac

Depression board

i know that you arent supposed to quit a AD cold turkey, but what can happen if you do???

i am on 40mg of prozac and keep forgetting to take it in the morning... and havent taken it in a week...
Prozac has the longest half life of all the SSRIs which means it takes the longest to leave the body, which in turn means that it is the least likely of all the SSRIs to have bad withdrawal side effects.

Having said that, though, it could also take longer for the withdrawal effects to kick in, so look out for that. You may not be out of the woods yet.

Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones who won't experience any problems. I sincerely hope so for your sake.

Dear greenstumpie,
Lets just hope you are one of the lucky ones as Lori J said. It all works on the half-life of the medication, the individual and how long it takes to get out of your system to a low enough dosage to start withdrawals if any. Would not advise stopping cold turkey on any mental medication. What Lori J posted is only a few of the things that can happen and you don't just start taking it again at the withdraway stage an recover immediately. You may put yourself through something you will regret. Just my opinion from exprience of course.

Sincerely,

Sickman :)
