Depression board

s1980,
Welcome to the boards! I read through your history, and I can identify with a lot of what you're feeling. Though I never attempted suicide, it did cross my mind at that fragile time in my high school years. I was diagnosed with depression my senior year in high school, and put into a therapy group with other teenagers who also suffered from depression. When I began college, I was placed on 20mg of Prozac which seemed to help improve my outlook and moods. Since this time, I have been through Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, as well as had my Prozac dosage increased to 40mg. I am now 25 years old, and I feel like I have matured a lot since this time. I no longer seem to suffer with severe bouts of depression, but I do feel mildly "down" some of the time when there is really no cause for it. It sounds like this might be what you're experiencing, too. There is actually a name for this. It's called Dysthymia. It's a very mild form of depression in which you experience only one or two of the symptoms of clinical depression, but don't feel "depressed" necessarily. I feel a lot like you've described: I feel really hopeful for the future, and I know that there is a lot waiting out there for me, yet I still have this slight feeling of "the blues" that I can't quite find a cause for. If you'd like to learn more about Dysthymia, I would recommend doing a search for it on Yahoo or Google.
