Discussions that mention prozac

Back Problems board

hi all, i went to my appt with mental health this am. the doc says that i have ptss, ocd and manic depression. he put me on prozac and ambien(more pills). i guess from what i understand ptss is what happens when somthing traumatic happens to you and the ocd comes from the sexual abuse, this explains why i have to shower at least 4 time a day even waking in the middle of the night to scrub myself raw. im alittle emarrassed about seeing a shrink but atleast now i understand some of the behaviors ive been dealing with. I told the dr. about comming to this board and about the responses ive gotten, he told me that his wife belongs to one of these and that he believes that talking to others who have and are going through the same things as i am is much more helpful than any script he could ever give me.He also sugested that i talk to my husband about my past, you see you guys were the first i ever told. I guess i've always felt so dirty and i thought that if anyone else knew they would think i was dirty too. I know it was so hard for some of you to tell your story to a complete stranger, and although my heart was so heavy with pain for you it actually made me feel so much better knowing that i was'nt the only one going through this night mare. again i thank all of you for being there and reaching out to me, its been about three hours since i took the prozac. im not sure if im so tired from the mental exaustion or if its from the pill. if anyone has or is taking this could you please tell me if this is normal and what if anything i should expect from prozac. i've heard so many horror stories about this med. love in Christ Renee
Renee, welcome back, I am so glad to hear of your doctors appt.. for the prozac, my son in law is on it and he is doing just great.. I do not had OCD, or at least I don't think I do. Renee I didn't tell my husband about my abuse until we had be married 14 years,,,he was angry at my abusers as 3 of them were still alive.. two of them still today. I know I need therapy and believe that I am moving more to seeking it soon but haven't yet. Later Leaf

Renee,

I took paxil at one point in my life. It took about 2 weeks for me to really notice the beginning of a difference. I did feel very sleepy for about a month, and then it lifted. At that same time, my depression and anxiety completely lifted.

I am concerned about one thing you wrote though. I have 2 dtrs who have bipolar. One is bipolar depressive and became suicidal for 2 years during her teens. The other is a rapid cycler. Most doctors will not prescribe an anti-depressant, which is what prosac is, to someone with any form of bipolar (manic depressant disorder), without also prescribing a mood stabilizer. It can trigger manic behavior. You might want to call him back and ask about that.

I hope you are feeling better now that you realize where your current behaviors and worries are coming from. Can you go see a counselor too, who you see each week? If that is too expensive, there are free groups who counseling domestic violence victims, which you certainly are one. A group of people who went through the exact same thing can really help you, and you will probably make at least one good friend who can be your coach as you walk down your new path of understanding.

Keep posting, please. angel:
