Eating Disorder Recovery board

Hi!

I wrote a long response to the post "bulimia and prozac" ...I think it might help you to read it. I am a recovering bulimic and wrote down all the things that helped me recover.

Please seek therapy if you haven't already. I know what you are going through. I was bulimic off and on for nine years. Beating your ED is probably the hardest thing you will ever have to do, but you have to do it, or it will eventually kill you. I read a scary thing online yesterday that said "Most bulimics die in the act of purging" so even if you aren't currently having any real medicaly issues you could die during the next time your purge.

Also, bulimic's can weigh 80 lbs or 300 lbs! So please don't compare your weight to others with the same disorder. The fact is the longer you are bulimic, the more damage you do to your metabolism, so you end up gaining weight-period. It is also impossible to throw up all the calories you consume, so you gain weight that way too. You also make it harder to lose weight the health way in the future. You can be a healthy weight and not be bulimic!! Most of the world is NOT bulimic and they are a healthy weight. Don't think that you will blow up to 200 lbs when you stop purging, because it won't happen. You might gain a little at first but once you start eating healthy and restart your metabolism your body will settle at the weight it is supposed to be at. All in all, bulimia is not an effective way to control ones weight.
But I do know there is more to bulimia than weight...much more.

I wish you the best of luck and courage to face this demon. Please keep posting as I think you could find these boards helpful.
