Discussions that mention prozac

Depression board

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration/Center for Drug Evaluation and Research says that Paxil is not recommended for children under 18, and then goes on to say that a doctor is qualified to decide if Paxil is needed in certain cases. It also says that the recommendation is based on 3 studies (3?) in which children taking Paxil were found to have more dark-related thinking, and that NO child acted on those thoughts in these studies. There's a difference between ideas and desires. Paxil has been on the US market for over 14 years. It also says that Prozac is the only antidepressnat (or SSRI) that is approved for children's use. Remember, a doctor is seen as qualified to identify those instances in which it is more helpful to rx a non-approved antidepressant to a child. The info on their site is almost 3 years old.

That all said, I'd want to be working with 1) a psychiatrist 2) who specializes in children.
