Discussions that mention prozac

Addiction & Recovery board

Well I have been meeting with a therapist and they diagnosed me as bipolar 2. I am on prozac for the depression and depakote for the mood stabilizer. I actually got enough courage to talk to my family doctor about cutting down on the vicodin and he told me it wasnt a good idea right now, that I need to take things one thing at a time. I do think I have always self medicated in a way, I guess this is normal. But I do have pain, I have been going to the gym and working out 2-4 hours everyday and the therapist said that should help too. I have felt pretty good latley but really want all the way off the vikes.
SSRI being what, prozac? I have been bi poloar way long before I was on any meds, ive just always self medicated myself. Everytime I started a depression drug as soon as Id feel better Id stop and be ok for months, but was very manic, the vicodin make me manic. So Im not feeling like I need them as much since my moods stableizing or it could all be in my head. Who the hell knows????

Hey Kandra

No, Buddy, I don't think it is all in your head at all!! I think the Prozac is just starting to kick in and you are going to feel continuously better and stronger. I think that because tyhe Prozac is working, you don't indeed, feel the need for the Vicodin as much. I think your doctor is on a good thought as far as stabalizing you a bit before coming off the vicodin totally, but also agree with Dan that if you could start to cut back a bit, it would be helpful in the long run. I wouldn't get gung-ho and cut back drastically, just a little bit at a time. Then, when you and your doctor feel together that the time is right, make a plan with him as to the best way for you to come off.

I very happy for you. Very happy.
