Discussions that mention reclast

Osteoporosis board

I did Forteo for two years and now my doctor wants to do Reclast. Has anyone been treated with this once a year IV treatment? My bone density was -4.5 when I turned 49. I am now 52. My spine has so many cracks that if I fall (which is often) the next fall could paralyze me. I am on full disability and always have some sort of fracture or osteoporosis related injury.

Are there any other chat spaces to communicate with others suffering from osteoporosis? There are millions of prople with this but I am having a hard time finding resources with internet support.
Do you think your going to try the Reclast? When my doctor was trying to talk me into it I asked why if the bisphosphonates stay in your system for up to 10 years would I need an IV infusion yearly. She couldn't really answer to well except to say that eventually the medication goes out of your system.

I didn't want to take a year's worth of medication and then suffer side effects that lasted over the whole year or longer. I didn't want to take a year's worth of medication that may stay in your system for 5-10 years, and have then have yearly injections if it's not needed. I wonder if there's a way to test for a blood level of the medication so that after a year if there's plenty of medication in the system another injection wouldn't be necessary until the medication level dropped down.

I did not know any of this about Reclast. I am not sure I want it now and will talk to my doctor. And since reading about it on the internet- it mentions you should not take it if you had a reaction to various other meds: Fosomax being one of them. And I did not tolerate Fosomax. I would rather go back to Forteo again. I do not think Reclast is for me.
