Hair Loss / Alopecia board

I have been on Synthroid and Cytomel for about a 1 1/2 years now I got a little of my hair back but not nearly as much as I would have liked. It is impossible for me to loose weight without totally cutting food out of my day. I thought I was going Bald but no one in my family has ever lost there hair. I can not figure out why my hair is not getting any thicker even though my Thyroid is within normal range. Is there another type of medication that I can use or what is going on can anybody please HELP ME I am loosing MY MIND.
Hi Donnie 317. You mention that on Synthroid and Cytomel that you are in "normal ranges". Where in the normal ranges??? Do you know where your freeT3 and free T4 are? For some people, hair loss doesn't stop until you get those ranges in the upper end. And neither does the problem with weight. It appears you have to have both the T3 and T4 up there to get results!

Also, female hormones can come into play. My hair was still falling out when my fT3 was very high and optimal. I now realize it's because I have been on synthetic female hormones. I have recently made a switch to using compounded natural estrogen and progesterone, and I am fairly sure it will be the final step in stopping the hair loss.

Hi Chinaberry
I am waiting on my Dr to give me the results from my blood work. I was on the low end of the normal range. She just changed my Synthroid to .1mg and 12.5 Mcg of Cytomel 3 weeks ago. I have been fighting these same symptoms for over a year now. I really appreciate all the help. Will my hair come back or am just without it forever? I can not even put Gel in my hair becasue it looks so thin. I will post my blood results as soon as I get them.

Thanks again
Donnie
