Thyroid Disorders board

Hi butterfly,
I just read this thread and wanted to reenforce what the others have been saying. You are not alone. I just found this board the other day. My story is somewhat similar to yours.

My doctor found a thyroid nodule during routine physical June 24, 2003, sent me for a thyroid sonogram. 3 solid masses showed up. Referred to a local ENT surgeon who did a "near-total" thyroidectomy July 28, 2003 with a diagnosis of papillary carcinoma and follicular adenoma.

He did start me on synthroid the next day and has increased my dose once, but I still have hypothyroid syomptoms. I also have the terrible mood swings and crying jags. Oh, and the exhaustion is nearly more than I can take. To complicate matters, I had a sister who was 18 months older than me die in her sleep so unexpectedly Aug. 9. So, a lot of the time I suppose my crying is my grieving, but I was so weepy before her death.

The ENT who did my surgery and Rx'd synthroid has now referred me to an endo. Initially the soonest I could get in there was Nov. 4, but I called today and they had a cancellation tomorrow, so I'm able to see him tomorrow instead. My doctor told me that the endo he is referring me to specializes in treating thyroid disorders, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Just so want to get to feeling better.

I'm quite surprised your doctor hasn't put you on some type of thyroid replacement after removal of part of your thyroid. So, it's no wonder you are feeling quite miserable. Hang in there, and be sure to ask questions. You have a right to know what's going on with your medical treatment and NO question is a dumb question.
