Hi,

I wonder if anyone here can shed some light on what is going on. I was diagnosed with hypo (Hashimoto) over a year ago but had no symptoms. Plenty of energy, no weight gain, just felt normal. My blood work was borderline so we didn't treat it. However, my last blood test as of 2 weeks ago (no medication at that time yet) was much more out of range:
TSH: 30
Ref Range: .4-5.5
Free T4: .8
Ref Range: .8-1.8
Total T4: 7.1
Ref Range: 4.5-12
T3 Uptake: 19.8
Ref Range: 27-40
T3 Total: 161
Ref Range: 60-181

Even though I was still asymptomatic, because my numbers were pretty far out of range I did start treatment. We started slow, with 50 mcg Synthroid. I've been taking the meds now for 7 days. It could be coincidence, but it has seemed to help the menstrual problem I was having. However, for the past 3 days I've now started experiencing the typical hypo symptoms - no energy, fall asleep on the couch in the evening, can hardly drag myself out of bed in the morning, having alot of difficulty concentrating at work, very fuzzy thinking....can anyone help explain what's going on?? How atypical is it to have no symptoms while TSH is 30? And then why did I start having symptoms after starting the Synthroid? I was expecting to be really hyper instead. Many thanks.
Well I have plenty of symptoms and I have normal T4 and high TSH of 13.08.

I took the Synthroid just once and everyone thinks Im nuts but I woke up the next morning with many Hypo symptoms that I've never experienced before like freezing, bad leg and back cramps and a few others....felt like crud. Now Im awainting an Endo appointment to see if he'll prescribe Armour for me being that Im pretty afraid to start popping the Synthroid again. But thats just me and Im half nuts to begin with....most people experience nothing but better health.
